Daytona 500 in virtual reality, Coming From Fox Sports- Jordan Gilber

I have never been a big fan of NASCAR, but even I know the Daytona 500 is one of the biggest races of the year. Over the past couple years the race did not have the ratings that Fox wish they had. The demographic of 18-49 year olds had a rating of 1.0. So during the race, Fox teamed up with NextVR to deliver a virtual reality streaming. “With its patented technology, NextVR is the only company capable of transmitting live high definition, three-dimensional virtual reality content over the Internet delivering a completely immersive and life-like experience for the viewer” However to access this technology, the viewer will need a Samsung VR headset. This is not a new innovation on the sports scene; it has been used before most notably during the Golden State Warriors home opener this past year. This won’t be the last time it is used either, Fox and NextVR have team up for five years covering other sports as well. There aren’t many people with this type of technology, but more and more will arise in the next couple years. I think this will be a great new innovation and will be beneficial in sports for years to come.
