HBO has signed one of the biggest names in sports news in former ESPN employee Bill Simmons. Simmons founded Grantland and the 30 for 30 documentary series, two of the biggest digital medias in sports. He also had the most downloaded podcast on iTunes with 4 million downloads. Simmons has been very controversial and has clashed with NFL, ESPN, and Rodger Goodell. HBO is trying to get a new audience with its online streaming service HBO Now and Simmons will help make this happen. HBO has signed deal with many companies like Apple. The “linear” TV programming is facing problems so HBO must keep coming up with new ways to get viewers.
