After visiting ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol I was most shocked by the massive technological infrastructure required to produce sports content. The Super Bowl is no different. This article showcases the state of the art technology to be used by NBC in order to broadcast the game to over 100 million people. NBC will use 18 mobile television units and 10 offices immediately outside the stadium to make the broadcast possible. The article states that the entire stadium is outfitted with 33 miles of fiber optic cable! But 4K video isn’t everything, let’s not forget about audio! NBC will mic the field with more than 100 microphones. This article does a great job at showing how much effort and technology goes into creating sports content.
